Welcome to our Laurel Leaf Hanoverian website! We are Peter and Diane Halpin. For the past few years, we have been dedicated to producing Hanoverian horses with strong jumping talent, super conformation and temperament, and lovely movement at all gaits.
On our small farm in Great Falls, Virginia we have concentrated on producing one or two foals per year and raising them in a quality setting with proper turnout and stabling, correct nutrition, and loving care. Our foals are sired by quality stallions such as Fuerst Gotthard, the For Pleasure son For Play, Landkönig, and Pablo. These stallions all have strong jumping records with the proven ability to pass that on, as well as excellent movement and temperament. All of our youngsters have show records, as Diane strongly believes in their early exposure to the horse show atmosphere, attending dressage sport horse in-hand classes, hunter breeding classes, an/or future event horse in-hands as directed by the youngsters' inborn and developing talents.
In the past few years, we have produced the top USDF Region 1 Three-Year-Old Filly, the Reserve National Champion Future Event Horse, Top Four USEF Zone III Hunter Breeding Yearling, '08 National Yearling Champion Future Event Horse, and have qualified twice for the USDF Breeders Champion Series. Palomar LL was named Best Yearling at the prestigious Keswick Horse Show in May 2009. Our horses have brought home good ribbons from many top East and West Coast horse shows including Del Mar National, Dressage at Devon, Upperville Colt and Horse Show and many similarly well-known competitions.
Our foals are born on the farm and are handled daily. Diane will generally start the youngsters under saddle at three, and that usually goes very quietly since the youngsters have been with us since birth. Fuerst Aphrodite, our first filly, purchased as a weanling from Rainbow Equus Meadows, had an illustrious show career in-hand and became an Elite Mare Candidate at three years with all of the preparation for her Inspection and Mare Performance Test done at home. She was sold and has since, at five years, produced her first foal by As di Volare and so should become an Elite Mare this year.
We generally have at least several weanlings, yearlings, and two-year-olds for sale and try to look for homes where these talented youngsters can find fulfillment and have a bright future!
